Construction Challenge is an initiative designed to inspire young people to explore and pursue careers in the construction industry. Lucky high school teams from 8 locations in North America can compete for a spot at the 2011 Construction Challenge Finals in Las Vegas!

THE BLUEPRINT: Construction Challenge Regional Rally

Who:

Construction Challenge participants are:

• High school students (or the equivalent in technical or vocational schools or home-schooled students).
• Just like you! No specific skills or classes are required to participate.
• Students interested in real-world experience and exposure to viable career opportunities.

What:

Construction Challenge is:

• A one-day event held at 8 Regional Rally locations.
• Perfect for busy students – competition only requires 6-8 hours of advance work.
• A fun and exciting competition for students.
• For teams of 5 to 7 students plus an adult Team Manager (21 or older).

Construction Challenge’s Regional Rally day is a day unlike any other. Participants will experience the excitement, intensity and wow-factor of developing their unique Challenge solutions. They will also:

• Explore new careers.
• Test their skills.
• Meet AEM sponsor company representatives.
• Have fun!

The Regional Rally day is structured around two Challenges:

• Transportation Infrastructure: Teams will solve problems connected to the transportation infrastructure issues, focusing on how it impacts our quality of life
• Water Infrastructure: Teams will design equipment based on criteria and reproducibility in manufacturing.

When and Where:

On January 15, 2011, Regional Rallies will be held at 8 sites across the U.S. and Canada:

• Atlanta, GA	• Dallas, TX	• Seattle, WA	• Chicago, IL
• Enid, OK	• Cincinnati, OH	• Milwaukee, WI	• Toronto, Ontario

• Each Regional Rally is limited to 50 teams.
• Registration is $125 per team.
• There is no limit to the number of teams per school.
• Advancing teams will have the opportunity to compete at the Championship Finals at CONEXPO/CON-AGG in Las Vegas in March 2011.

Why:

Construction Challenge is a joint effort by The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), presenting-sponsor Volvo Construction Equipment and Destination ImagiNation (DI), who are working together to provide participants a real-world experience that will inspire them to explore and pursue careers in the construction industry. The dynamic Rally process raises awareness and changes perceptions of construction and how the industry impacts our quality of life.

Construction Challenge is different than any other event because it is:

• Directly connected to an industry actively looking for talented and motivated employees for a wide range of careers.
